A Little Something

Image
Needing a gift for my sister, and unable to go shopping, I decided to try my hand at felting again. I watched a couple of videos, following one to a T and created Nester. He's a simple mouse and I owe plenty of credit to The Woolly Rabbit's video HERE . She gave very clear instructions, with absolutely no guesswork involved. The wee cat, well, I just wanted to try my hand at sculpting with wool without a reference, and I made him the same day. Kitty is just a little over an inch in length. The next day, I was hungering for more needle felting and decided to try and create a rabbit - you know - for the season and all. Again, without a reference, and I think he turned out very nicely. I especially love his wee scarf, and doesn't he just look proud as punch to be wearing it?

New Friends

I have a new animal at the top of my favourite list.  Llamas.  They were at the bottom of my favourites list before last week.  One scared the dickens out of me when I was a small child by snatching the ice cream cone out of my hand. That was nearly 40 years ago, and it left a such an impression on me that I haven't gone near them since. I thought they were rude and unpredictable, but have since learned that it was more than likely the poor animal's situation that made him like that. I'm not a big fan of travelling petting zoos. Visiting animals at a happy farm is a much different experience than visiting them under the very stressful circumstances that travel and crowds put them under. These llamas are lucky enough to not only have more than enough space, but also they are cared for by an exceptional farmer who loves them, understands them and treats them as her family. When I heard there was a baby there, I invited myself over for a visit and was welcomed warmly n...

The Cute and Colorful

Image
On several of the blogs I visited today there were pictures of sweet kitties, so I thought I would share one I took just this morning.       I usually see a lot of great ideas on Pinterest, but rarely do I have to jump right up and get started on something.  These little wood houses were an exception though.  The ones on either end are pretty much copy cats of what I seen online, art by Saskia Obdeijn , but the four in the middle, I came up with myself. My sister commented that I was getting an early start on my Halloween decorations this year, and although they will fit in well with October's décor, I did not have that theme in mind at all. No, these wee houses mean much more to me than a passing season.    All over the countryside where we live, are abandoned houses.  Usually, they are in the middle of a field surrounded by a few trees.  These were the homesteads of 100 plus years ago. I find them both inviting...

Fall Bliss

Image
I am completely in love with my yard right now.  This is my 6th autumn here with a large garden(s), and so far, my most successful.  The pumpkin patch is amazing!!!  Even with the threat of yet another early frost coming on Monday, I am still happy with how many pumpkins, gourds and squash I have. My fall and Halloween displays should be nearing impressive for sure.  It is difficult to show in pictures how crazy these pumpkin vines have went, but when I am standing in among them, I feel like I am in an ocean of sorts. I won't know exactly how many I have until after the frost, when I can walk freely through the patch. I'm talking a lot about pumpkins here, but what I'm really featuring in these photos is a sweet little visitor that showed up back in June.  We call him Sam, and he is the friendliest kitty you've ever met. We're certain someone dropped him off near our home, and we've been loving him and looking for a home ever since.  I've become so fon...

Redo!

The blurriness of the vanilla bottle in my last post was driving me nuts.  So I set up the scene again, messed up again, set it up again and now I'm pleased.  I hope.  I'm leaving the problem photo up for comparison as well as a reminder to think everything through thoroughly while going through that much trouble for a photo! And just because, here is a picture of my lovely girl kitty Georgia.  I love the pose!

Playful Kitty

Image
My handsome kitty Crush was feeling playful in front of the camera recently.  He looks more goofy than handsome here, but he really is a very masculine cat in all ways.  There is no mistaking this fellow for a female.  My daughter is obsessed with cats, and of our three, this guy is her favourite, simply because he is so calm and will pretty much let her do whatever she likes.  She loves to sit him on her lap like a baby and snuggle him.  I processed the photo in two ways. What do you think? Shared this with Saturday's Critters . Thank-you Eileen!

Kitty Mash-up.

I thought it would be fun to do a mosaic of a cute photo I captured of my girl kitty, Georgia this weekend.  I like the way it turned out because we get a close-up view of some details in a kitties face that we all love.   Georgia was enjoying all the craziness of our master bedroom being repainted. Although it's not all back together, the room looks great!!!  I absolutely love how the color turned out.  It's called Jersey Grey by Simon Chang.  It is a grey with a hint of lavender. I think it's time for a new bedding ensemble to complete the makeover.  That could be awhile though, because I am fussy both in how it looks and how much it costs. This post was really just an excuse to take part in Judith's Mosaic Monday .  Thank-you Judith!

Sooty

During the first week of my life, I was given a black kitten.  My parents named him Zeke, and that cat was mine through and through for nearly 18 years.  I was devastated when he passed away.  It was nearly 3 years later, out and living on my own, that I went down to the local shelter with the intention of adopting a black kitten.  But instead, I met Winnie, a 3 year old former barn cat.  This cat stole everyone's heart and had been in the shelter for months, even when other kitties were being euthanized due to a lack of room for all the strays.  I took Winnie home, renamed him Zeke, Jr. and Junior became his name.  I had him for 17 years, and he died at the age of 20.  I did not expect the grief that hit me when that cat passed away.  I had grieved over other pets before; our wonderful Shepard, Ginger; our sweet, but weird Sarah cat, but nothing prepared me for Junior.  Plenty of people advised that I go out and rescue ano...
