Make it From Scratch

Image
Whipped up a little meringue pie for dessert after a chili dinner last night.  That adorable pie plate was a great find at a thrift shop.  I made the crust myself, and the meringue turned out great, but the filling left a bit to be desired.  It was a JELLO mix and after the lemon curd I made a couple days ago, I wasn't very pleased with the lack of flavor in this pie.  Next time, I will definitely take the time to juice and zest. I shared this post over at The Enchanting Rose for Tuesday's Roses of Inspiration .  If you are ever feeling inspired to bake yourself a lemon meringue pie, take the time to make it from scratch. Frankly, it's just not worth the calories otherwise. As far as Tuesday's go, I will be glad when this one is over.  I have a dentist appointment this morning for a tooth I managed to chip while eating popcorn.  So there will be needles and fillings involved.  The process makes me so incredibly nervous.  I will be so glad when it is over.  I ho

Kitty Mash-up.

I thought it would be fun to do a mosaic of a cute photo I captured of my girl kitty, Georgia this weekend.  I like the way it turned out because we get a close-up view of some details in a kitties face that we all love.   Georgia was enjoying all the craziness of our master bedroom being repainted. Although it's not all back together, the room looks great!!!  I absolutely love how the color turned out.  It's called Jersey Grey by Simon Chang.  It is a grey with a hint of lavender. I think it's time for a new bedding ensemble to complete the makeover.  That could be awhile though, because I am fussy both in how it looks and how much it costs. This post was really just an excuse to take part in Judith's Mosaic Monday .  Thank-you Judith!

Dragons and A Cake

Having an unstructured, quiet morning, I found myself missing my blog.  Although I've been visiting others' blogs, I hadn't added to my own in nearly 2 weeks.  So I thought it was time to catch up with what has been going on around here. We had our first get together since Uncle's passing. Although we were 2 days off my sister-in-law's special day, a comforting meal followed by a special cake was welcomed by everyone.  There was plenty of talk about Uncle and how things are going with the cleaning up of his home.  I know it isn't easy, and with every bit of physical progress, they make some emotional progress as well.  There are memories in everything they touch, right down to the old pancake mix.  Smiles are mixed with tears as they continue to sort through. The beginning of the new year is always my time to get caught up on the past year of scrap booking. I have completed two, one for each of my children and am well into a separate album for our r

A New Day

We woke up, had our breakfast.  The kids went off to school.  I jumped right into my normal morning routine while my husband headed out to clean grain.  Nothing  has changed.  Life goes on. But wait, someone who has been in our lives for a very long time is gone.  Shouldn't there be a substantial pause?  Every time I think about what our family went through this past weekend, my stomach turns, and it is a frequent thought.  I'm wondering how everyone is doing.  We so quickly went our separate ways, and it feels awful.  I want to gather our little family together and have an entire week to just be together, talk about Uncle and recognize the enormity of how our lives have changed.   But everyone is dealing with this in their own way and I pray that everyone is okay.  I hope they understand themselves and how it is they are dealing with the loss, and that they are taking care of themselves. I've known Uncle Mike for the past twenty years, while my husband and

An Update and a Critter

It seems like it has been such a long time since I posted anything, but it's only been a week and a half. The past ten days have been filled with many ups and downs, plenty of uncertainty and more than a few tears.  Our Dear Uncle continues to struggle, and it is very painful to watch.  We all feel very helpless in times like this. There is little to do, other than just be there for him and send him all of our love. On a completely different note, I have had a photo that I have been wanting to capture and share for some time.  It is of our little crested gecko, Chocolate.  She has the most incredible eyes.  They are a deep gold with all sorts of interesting detail.  She is such a sweet little fun pet to have and the easiest thing to care for. I'm sharing this photo on Eileen's blog for her wonderful ' Saturday's Critters '.
