Instagram Woes

Image
It happens every summer, time moves beyond fast and I'm left wondering where a month has gone. The weather has been so kind this year, warm temperatures and hardly any wind. I mention the wind because I live on the prairies and so wind is just something I've come to accept, but what a marvelous break we've had from it. I've been taking pictures like crazy since getting a new camera at the beginning of July and so you'd think I would have been blogging a lot, but... Instagram. Yep, that's where my photos have been going. A few you of have found me there and so know that I am still alive, but the rest of you, I have not been fair to.  I'm not sure I'm in love with Instagram.  I was at first, but then I discovered that a lot of people are using it to build up a false sense of popularity. Normally, this sort of thing would not bother me, except that I'm looking for a genuine community. Here's the problem - I post a photo, I get a bunch of ...

Happy 40th To Me!

Image
After spending a lovely day with my family to celebrate my 40 th , we drove into the city in the evening to catch our flight to Palm Springs the next morning.   Towards the end of our short 2 hour drive, we were greeted by a lovely sunset.   This was just a quick snapshot off of my phone, but it didn’t do too terrible a job.   The next one is from aboard our flight of course.   I haven’t flown in years, so naturally I needed the pretty cloud shot.   For those of you that fly a lot, I’m sure this bores you to tears, but it’s a new scene for me, or as good as.   And really, what else are you going to do during a 3 hour flight?     What do you like to do to pass the time?   I’m not great at sitting.   I find it very uncomfortable.   I prefer to stand or lie down.   That aside, I broke up the flight with a bit of journaling, reading, taking and editing a few shots with my phone, and writing up this blip for my b...

God's Palette

Image
A quick post today to join in on Good Fences over at The Run "A" Round Ranch Report.  I can't tell you how beautiful this sky was in person. The photo is pretty and maybe saying this reflects my skills as a photographer, but it just doesn't cut it.  I have yet to see a photograph of a sunset that is able to make me feel the same way as when I am standing out there with God's palette wrapped all around me. This sky was amazing!

Morning Greetings With Last Night's Sunset

Image
I'm taking my morning tea with Lightroom and a few of last night's photos.  As I'm typing, I keep looking up and out a window from my basement and just noticed  a blue jay that has perched himself on a branch.  Maybe I will be lucky enough to capture him in a photograph later today.  Our jays seem to be very shy around here though, even though they know who fills their feeder every week. Oh, and now I see a very large woodpecker, another camera shy bird.  Maybe I need a more powerful lens, so I can get up close without having to get up close. On a different note, I have a nephew who is turning 19 today, and I was able to claim him for lunch this afternoon.  He is the oldest of all my sister's and my children, and there are 10 of them.  I am truly looking forward to this get together, as I rarely get to see him on his own. Almost never, in fact. But every time I do see him, he shows me a gorgeous photo of a sunrise or sunset on his phone.  The k...

I've been working on two things as of late, jewelry and photography.  I put together a quick collage of some of my favourite pieces.  The lovely leftover light from last night's sunset didn't leave me much to work with and I probably should have taken the time to set up my tripod, but I wanted to be quick as I was pulled over on the side of a road.  On my way home from the first session of a photography workshop, I couldn't resist pulling over, but I did wait until I was off the main highway where there was little to no traffic. Unfortunately I missed the best the part of this gorgeous sunset, but a small price to pay for safety.   I have a very difficult time taking a sharp photo without a flash, but I am practicing, and what better candidates than the fur babies.  Here is a close-up of each of their cute, little faces. November Two Too Busy

Image
It's raining/snowing here this morning.  It snaining. Wow, what a muddy mess my yard is. I am looking forward to freeze-up and a nice clean blanket of snow.  Today is pack up Halloween/Fall day.  Then I'll wait a couple of weeks before starting on decorating for winter and Christmas. I don't like looking at seasonal décor for too long.  Mind you, I don't like looking at any décor for too long, and so I am often changing things up.  My family both loves and hates this practice.  My husband cringes every time I pound a new nail into the wall, or 3 because I didn't measure and for some reason my eyeballing technique failed me. Tip: have your glass of wine after you're done redecorating. My November is looking to be a very busy one.  I've maybe overbooked and even double-booked myself. I have several photography workshops to attend, and there will probably be homework.  I have a craft show I'm taking my jewelry too, (thank you to my husband w...

A Catch-Up Post

Image
Oh my goodness, was my last post really about Halloween???  Time has flown by so quickly, and now that my daughter's birthday has passed, it is time to start thinking about the next event, Christmas of course!  We have a very relaxed holiday planned, as we have every year and hopefully everything goes as planned, as it usually does.  My little girl's 12th birthday was the exception this year.  The poor thing was so sick on her special day, I had to take her to a walk in clinic for a Dr. to take a look.   A bad throat infection has settled in and for the first time that I can remember she has to go on a round of antibiotics.  After only 4 out of 30 pills down, she is showing signs of renewed health! In the meantime, I've been wandering around with my camera and taking advantage of any photo opportunity that crosses my path.  We've had some incredible sun rises and sets, and one good dose of hoar frost.  My sweet, tiny kitten is 5 months old...

A Day Enjoyed

Image
I started my day in the kitchen, as usual.  But today I had the privilege of cooking for 2 separate sets of visitors.  I thoroughly enjoyed the savory scent of simmering beef stew all morning while making French bread and chocolate chip cookies.    I first had a great time in the company of my sister and her son, (my nephew), and then shortly after they had to run, I appreciated a second lunch with 2 good friends.  I must have felt a bit like a hobbit by then, (overfed and content) but it didn't end there.  A few hours later, I had dinner with my children, and a couple hours after that, my kidlets and I sat down with more food, (popcorn) and delighted ourselves with an old classic, 'Alice In Wonderland'.   In between dinner with the kids, and our movie, I took advantage of a few photo opportunities.  It's always nice to capture some blog worthy pictures.   Although I knew things w...
