My Everything Corner

My friends, family and neighbors have all let me down.  Many a pumpkin was offered, and very few have left my yard.  Even my pumpkin thieving, (loving) sister didn't take very many this year.  All in all, I was only able to give away around 20.  When there are nearly 500, 20 does not make a dent.  So, I set to work painting and carving the ripe ones.  The kids and the husband carved a few each. The green ones have been used as props for the orange guys.  Even if more had turned orange in time for Halloween, I'm sure they still would have been used in the same way. On the deck and in front of the house, there are just over 300 pumpkins.  That is not counting ornamental gourds of which there were around 200, and they are scattered here and there.  I had a fantastic gourd patch this year.  There were so many different types, I never knew what I was going to find when I went out to pick a few. I hope everyone is having a wonderful Halloween Day.  Our weather is not cooperating at all.  It is raining and very windy.  The forecast is promising that it well stop before the evening though and even clear off for Trick-or-Treating.  Even though we are stuck indoors, we are still thoroughly enjoying our day.  We carved jacks this morning and are watching the first Harry Potter while enjoying a few early treats.  The plan is to set the jacks out on the deck when the rain stops and do a photo shoot in our costumes. Since Thanksgiving, this will be the fourth pumpkin pie I will dig into.  No, I am not ashamed of this, perhaps I should be, but there it is.  As soon as the leaves start to turn, I begin craving the pumpkin pie. In the summer it is beer that consumes me. Well, I suppose I do more of the consuming, but you know what I mean.  In the dead of winter, it is Merlot.  Dear God in Heaven, I love Merlot.  Thank-you for Merlot.  I love saying Merlot, and capitalizing it too.  Around the holidays, I devour any shortbread that crosses my path.  You want to make a new friend?  Make me a shortbread cookie stuck in a good size slice of pumpkin pie, serve it up with a cold glass of stout and follow that up with a nice big glass of Merlot.  I can assure you, we will be friends for life. I have been enjoying travelling through blogland and seeing everything people are doing in their homes to celebrate the fall and Halloween season.  And I thought it was high time I shared what I've been up to.  I can't say I'm finished, and if I do anything else that's exciting, I will do another post. Minus the spiders, I've had that whole get-up on my door for a long time. A spooky old tree for a spooky old crow. There may be a few Harry Potter fans in the house... This duo is sitting in what is meant to be a Christmas decoration, but seeing as how we usually have snow here by October 31st, I thought, "Why not?". I like doing things other than jack o' lantern faces on my pumpkins.  Although, there are also a lot of faces scattered around. I found that handsome black cat sculpture at flea market for $3!!! I don't usually grab my camera when taking out the trash, and by doing so, I turned a 20 minute round trip into a 2 hour one.    I had fun playing around with these in Photoshop.  Enjoy. When we moved here, we looked at the property right next to this creek.  But, it was too far from town, and we worried about the length of the school bus trip. The same creek - opposite side of the road.  The small damn created several small waterfalls, making it sound very pretty. Usually crows are solitary creatures, or at least confined to very small groups, but not at migration time.  This murder was of an impressive size, but I only caught a small part. Another group of crows in a swathed wheat field. Who doesn't love an old log building tucked into the woods? A pretty sky shot, that creates the feeling of a meandering path below. I've really enjoyed decorating for Halloween this year.  Plenty of pumpkins again, no snow, and a fantastic new marker to work with.  What more could you ask for?  Now for picture overload.  Enjoy, and have an awesome Halloween!
