February Wind Down

Image
I'm so glad to be nearing the end of February. Spring is so close, I can almost taste it! It's time to order seeds and get some babies started under those grow lights.   We've been making the most of the cold months in our home this year. We painted and upgraded the trim in the basement and then promptly attacked the upstairs which is currently in chaos.  Up there we are doing new paint, flooring, trim and a countertop.  It's all going to look very fresh for Easter and Spring. Also, we are planning a two week road/tenting trip to the Yukon. We plan to go in July and I can hardly wait to visit the North again. I've been visiting my feeders nearly daily all winter and those little chickadees are becoming quite tame. One even landed in the pail of seed I was still carrying.  The photo was taken with my phone and I was less than a foot away! The amaryllis is full bloom. It's an out of place beauty upstairs where everything is turned upside-down. ...

July Mornings

Image
July is flying by so fast, it is making me dizzy! I've been having fun learning about my new camera and enjoying Instagram a whole bunch. I like that I can use it from my phone which I almost always have on me and that it is super quick. Mostly though, I've been enjoying the weather, my gardens and having my kids at home. They're older now, and mostly prefer to do their own thing, but I love "dropping in" now and then to see what they're up to and just having their happy voices fill up our home makes me lighthearted. I do hope you're all having a fabulous July! Here are some photos, mostly from my morning walk with my dog. An America Coot in its nest. I get a kick out of these guys and the noises they make. A lovely pair I passed on my morning walk. Seemed like a sad little birdie. My black kitty Sooty, getting some love from Georgia. This is one of those shots I thought I didn't get. It's my current favourite and I wil...

Good Bye 2016

I hope everyone has enjoyed the holiday season.  For me, it's all about the preparation.  I love to bake, so I do a lot of it and then wonder I made so much.  I do this every, single year.  No one complains though, but as Mother, I know we are eating way too much sugar.   I love how warm and cozy my home feels all decked out with winter and Christmas decor.  I dread taking it down.  I really have to find a way to make my home feel the same way for the remainder of the winter months. My amaryllis bloomed a few days after Christmas, but that's okay.  Isn't it gorgeous?!  Also included is a picture of my tree and the light over my dining table.  I really love decorating both every year. The last photo is of my wee black cat, Sooty in a very weird pose.  Even my other kitty seems to be looking on in disbelief as to how he got his body into such a contorted position. Happy New Year Everyone!

Sending Out a Thank-you

I know someone who it seems, is in the process of dying.  How long will it be?  That's anyone's guess. Everyone seems to have accepted it, and yet, none of us are prepared for the change it will bring to our family.  It is a family that is continuing to get smaller in numbers.  There was a time when it was growing.  Our elderly were healthy and babies were being born.  It was wonderful, and we all felt good about living. Now, there have been no births for 10 years and in that time we have lost several people. I also know someone who to her core, is a caregiver.  A nurturer through and through and to a fault. Do we let her take it all on herself, this entire process of holding the hand of our loved one as he prepares to leave?  She would let us.  And it would be easy to take advantage of that because we all have busy, middle age lives.   In a perfect world, she would be spending her late years gradually slowing down and enjoying ...
