Snow Day!

It has been a wonderful, drawn out fall.  I've enjoyed easy walks around my yard well into December, and more time outdoors than I usually get during these first two winter months. This balance between indoors and outdoors is essential to keeping me feeling good.  I hate being cooped up in the house for too long without a breath of fresh air.  It makes me tired, and I'm a grouch when I'm tired.

Yesterday, Old Man Winter decided to correct his oversight in our corner of the world, and deposited between 6 and 8 inches of snow.  It looked light and fluffy, but it was actually very dense and it took a lot of work on my husband's part to tidy up the driveway.

The prairie I walk in out back was so completely whited out, it seemed as though I was getting nowhere, even though I could clearly feel the muscles in my legs straining to get me through the snow.  It is actually quite dizzying to be looking at nothing but pure white and trying to move forward.  I had to look up and use the the trees around the yard to anchor my vision and steady myself.

Nonetheless, it is beautiful out there, and it does suit the season so much more than the dull browns of the dead prairies.

Here is a collection of 5 photos from yesterday, 5 for Five on Friday - HERE.

  4. It's so nice to meet you via Five on Friday. I absolutely loved seeing your photos of winter. I remember with fond memories the beautiful snowy winters we had in eastern Washington. No snow here in southern California. Although we're getting a little bit of much needed rain today. I will be back for another visit soon.Have a wonderful weekend :)

  5. Hi - just popped over from Amy's blog. What a lot of snow. I have to say it does look lovely. I live in Cumbria (UK) and last week quite a lot of our area was flooded. We have had terrible wind and rain. Joan at www.aviewtothefells.com

    1. I am so very sorry to hear about the flooding. We actually have very little snow for this time of year and our weather been incredibly mild. I hope your weather settles down soon and that it hasn't left too much destruction in it's wake.

  9. I'm sure you love the first fall of snow but I guess it must get quite wearing to have to keep clearing it away. Your photos are picture perfect. You can tell we don't get much snow this side of the pond because we are always wishing for it. Keep cosy. Barbara

    1. If I had to clear it all the time, I would be crying. I know, because there was one year that I had to, and it was misery. But actually, the husband quite enjoys the work out there, so lucky me! I can stay in, and make cocoa. Have a wonderful weekend.

  12. We had the same white landscape this time last year but a different story now with temperatures in the mid to high 40s. I'll definitely be dreaming of a white Christmas. :-)
Your dog obviously enjoys the snow and I like the red collar contrasting with the dark fur.

  13. Yay! Someone noticed his collar. I love that collar and specifically chose it to make a statement against his black fur. Thank-you so much for visiting and commenting and have a great weekend.

    1. I hope you get your beautiful snow. I love the fall, but it is so harsh when it is over and everything is dead and brown. The snow comes along, and everything is softened. I am a hopeless romantic, to be sure, but the poet in me comes out every time we get our first snowfall of the season. And to stay warm? I have more winter clothes than you can shake a stick at!

    1. Hi Stacy! Oh, he just loves the winter. He is so furry and the temperatures are just right for him this time of year. He frolics around and acts so crazy, he has me laughing out loud just watching his joy. I get out there as often as I can, as long as the wind isn't too strong; we both really hate the wind in the winter.
