Home is people. Not a place. If you go back there after the people are gone, then all you can see is what is not there anymore.        Robin Hobb                                           I have followed up that quote with a photo of things.  A tiny sample of the things I fill my home with to make it feel warm and cozy.  But the problem with things, no matter how lovely they are, their magic only works when surrounded with the members of my wonderful family.  There are some things that hold memories of loved ones long gone, or of friends that have moved on. But they are few, and of course, very special.  I wonder which things will take on meaning after I'm gone?

My Reliable Handsome Fella

I could be referring to my husband with that title, and perhaps I ought to be, but in this case I'm describing my dog. Today, while out for a stroll around the yard with my camera, I noticed that when I stopped to do a few shots, he sat down and waited for me.  As soon as I let my camera hang loose around my neck and took a step forward, he picked himself up, and continued walking.  Once I noticed this behavior, I put it to the test several more times, and without fail, he waited for me to finish, keeping a close eye one me, and when I walked, he walked.  What a wonderful feeling to be so connected through this unconditional love my dog has for me.  If I could give him, (and others) half of what he gives me, I would consider myself enlightened. If you are looking for the 'Grow Your Blog', and you may want to, as it contains a giveaway, you will find it here .   It has been cold outside, and although Bear finds the interior of our house more than boring, that is where we have been doing the majority of our visiting during this nip off your nose weather.     It is very hard to get this gorgeous animal to sit still long enough outdoors to get a set of nice snapshots of him.  Especially close-ups, because if you are at his level outdoors, that means it is serious playtime.  You are going to get licked and pawed and maybe even turned over if you allow it.   He is 120 pounds big, and in my tiny house, Bear has learned that he has to be calm.  He is a 2 year old, and calm equals dull or an opportunity for a nap.  For me, it means I can sit next to him, lay my head on his chest, pet him calmly, or grab the camera and play around.   ...

A Few Of My Favourite Quotes

Image
This one, I first read this morning on a blog I follow, " Artful Living on the Bluff ". Out of the entire, lovely collection, this one stood out the most. I am definitely guilty of not staying focused. I find it very easy to jump around from idea to idea, constantly trying new things, with very little, or no focus on any one thing. "People think focus means saying yes to the thing you've got to focus on. But that's not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully." - Steve Jobs Another favourite... "And the time came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." - Anais Nin This one came to me at a time when I had to make certain decisions and changes in the way I dealt with loved ones. When you believe that a choice could hurt someone, even it seems best for everyone involved, it is very difficult to get past blaming yourself for...
