More Spring

Image
There still isn't a ton of yard work to be done, so I just keep walking around, enjoying the milder temperatures and searching for the latest developments of Spring. I'm taking a little road trip west this week end to see a good friend, and I've heard things have progressed a little further over her way, so I won't forget to take my camera.  Also, her neighbors have a fantastic selection of pets.  Maybe they'll let me spend time taking their portraits to share here.  I always have such a wonderful time when I visit, so I'm really looking forward to Friday! Here are a few photos I took this morning.  Pussy willows starting to bloom. Lilac buds. Moss.  I love moss.

Signs of Spring

Image
I was out for a stroll this morning looking for signs of Spring.  You wouldn't notice them at a glance. You have to get up close and even dig a little to unearth the details that promise that change of season. This first photo almost looks like something you would see on a coral reef, but it is how the sem false spirea shows signs of life early.  It is definitely the early bird of the shrubs. Although I have seen a few ladybugs here and there, we actually dug this little guy out of his fallen leaf bed. He happily provided us with a portrait before he asked us to tuck him back in, which we gladly did of course. If you put a penny over top of the larger one, and a dime on the small one, they would both be completely hidden!  They are 2 tiny, adorable weeds growing on the west side of our shop among the gravel and moss.  When you look up close, it looks like I put together a little succulent garden.  If I'm correct, and I'll keep a close eye o...

Kitty Mash-up.

Image
I thought it would be fun to do a mosaic of a cute photo I captured of my girl kitty, Georgia this weekend.  I like the way it turned out because we get a close-up view of some details in a kitties face that we all love.   Georgia was enjoying all the craziness of our master bedroom being repainted. Although it's not all back together, the room looks great!!!  I absolutely love how the color turned out.  It's called Jersey Grey by Simon Chang.  It is a grey with a hint of lavender. I think it's time for a new bedding ensemble to complete the makeover.  That could be awhile though, because I am fussy both in how it looks and how much it costs. This post was really just an excuse to take part in Judith's Mosaic Monday .  Thank-you Judith!

Macro Mosaic

Image
Wanting to practice my macro, I snipped a flower from a bouquet my wonderful husband recently delivered to me.  I know, I know, hardly original.  And it isn't, and it was an obvious choice, but it's good practice, and now I have yet another photo suitable for making cards.   I did process it in 4 different ways.  I can't pick a favourite.  I see the potential in all four shots.  I'm going to try cropping it in less obvious ways, and see if I can't create something a little more unique that way. What do you think?  Do you have any ideas for some indoor macro shots I could try? I've shared this post HERE for Mosaic Monday.  There are always plenty of wonderful links to visit and I caught a glimpse of at least 2 beach posts.  I could definitely use a beach sometime soon. Although, the weather here was so mild yesterday, I actually took my hat and mitts off while out for a walk.  It felt so good.  I feel far more connected wit...

Baby Sooty Revisit

Image
A little something adorable for you today.  I love these photos of my wee, black kitten so much, I just had to resurface them and share them Here for Mosaic Monday. I hope you all had an awesome weekend.  Mine was spent scrap booking and trying to stay warm.  It has been indescribably cold here, but it promises to let up by the middle of the week. I also finished reading "Drowning Ruth" by Christina Schwarz.  I enjoyed it a lot and would recommend it.  I'm not sure what my next choice of novel will be.  I have so many to chose from that I think maybe I should sort the read from the unread, and then line the unread up alphabetically and just start going down the line.  But then, that would ruin how I decorate with my books and set them together in flattering groups.   Why not?  They're just taking up space, they may as well look good. I also spent some time planning our family's trip to Nova Scotia in July.  I have been look...

Black and White Mosaic

Image
I've put together a quick mix of black and whites for Mosaic Monday this morning.  I'm fairly certain I haven't previously published any of these images to my blog.  I really like all of them, and even though it may seem as though I favor the feather, it is actually a toss up between the curled up poinsettia leaf and the snow drifts, (which, by the way, are no taller than 2 inches).  Truth is, I love black and white photography.  Long before I ever owned a camera, I was drawn to it.  I love it even more now that I have Lightroom.  I can't tell you how much fun I have been having with that program.   Thank you again Judith for hosting.  This is one of my favorite link party's to take part in.   Do you have a favorite image out of these five?

Frank's Escape

Image
The Christmas clean up didn't go as smoothly as it does every other year.  Frank put up a fight.  The look on his face when I said it was time to get packed up until next year, was one of pure confusion. I explained to him how seasonal decorations worked and he went on and on about how I could be so insensitive and prejudice over a bit of attire. "If I hadn't been wearing a red and white striped toque with a sweet, little, matching bow tie, I'll bet you would easily consider keeping me out year round.   You are far too hung up on the color thing. Look around, your home could use a little pop of color; all beiges, browns and grays.  Someone might think you're depressed. I know I'll be depressed if you shove me in box for the nicest part of the year.  If I agree to stay in here, I'll never get to see the leaves, the green grass, feel the warmth from the sun. But go ahead, I'm obviously powerless to stop you.  If you're comfortable being a bully, ...

Half Way Through

Image
After spending the last two days cooking and hosting, it will be nice to take a break before getting together with our other side.   Although it was fun, and I was well prepared so everything ran smoothly, it still tired me out.   Sitting down at the computer and having plenty of time to type up a few words and play my part in a link party while sipping my tea, is a wonderful thing.  While some people have not even started their holiday obligations, mine are nearly half through.   My munchkins go back to school on the fourth, so that leaves me with plenty of time to snuggle up and enjoy my little family of four, (10 if you're counting our pets).  Yes, we are outnumbered by the animals we so love. I've really enjoyed visiting the blogs during the link parties, and it is great how everyone returns the visits.  It truly is a wonderful community, and one that I don't have to venture out into the cold to enjoy!  It just doesn't get better than that. ...

Mosaic Monday

Image
All of these photos were taken in the late fall before our big snowfall last week.  The casual, easy walking over the prairies is over!  I can also forget about having a fire, because the snow is sure piling up around the pit.  But, the landscape is lovelier then ever, and the birds seem more active, like now is the time get serious, because winter has finally arrived and finding food isn't as easy as it was a week ago.  Don't worry little guys, I'll keep the bird seed coming... This post was created for Mosaic Monday... HERE .
