Birds

There's nothing like birds to bring life and cheerfulness to our landscapes.  In the winter, birds are scarce on the prairies and I can hardly wait for Spring to arrive so welcome them all back.

Here are two photos of beautiful specimens.

    Hi Andrea ... the heron is marvellous looking, while the delightful ducklings remind me of the quail a-wandering the farm ... great to see - cheers Hilary

    You have a much longer winter up there so I understand why you love to photograph the wildlife you see in Spring and Summer..they are gone way too soon! Beautiful shots Andrea!

    Beautiful bird photos Andrea. We are so lucky here to have our birds year round although some do disappear for a while. I keep the feeder going all year as some continue to come. I love bird watching. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Kelly.

    I agree, Andrea I love my life to be full of birds! I am house hunting at the moment and a place where I can hear the birds sing is important to me! You have amazing birds around you - I'm happy with a common sparrow in my city life!

Snow Day!

It has been a wonderful, drawn out fall.  I've enjoyed easy walks around my yard well into December, and more time outdoors than I usually get during these first two winter months. This balance between indoors and outdoors is essential to keeping me feeling good.  I hate being cooped up in the house for too long without a breath of fresh air.  It makes me tired, and I'm a grouch when I'm tired. Yesterday, Old Man Winter decided to correct his oversight in our corner of the world, and deposited between 6 and 8 inches of snow.  It looked light and fluffy, but it was actually very dense and it took a lot of work on my husband's part to tidy up the driveway. The prairie I walk in out back was so completely whited out, it seemed as though I was getting nowhere, even though I could clearly feel the muscles in my legs straining to get me through the snow.  It is actually quite dizzying to be looking at nothing but pure white and trying to move forward.  I had ...
